Built in the 12th century by King Pratapa Rudra of the Kakatiya dynasty, the fort is built 90 meters high and spread over spectacular 100 acres on the hilly regions. The once huge fort now stands in a dilapidated condition. The whole structure is on top of a hill. However, in the past, this fort was the symbol of architectural prowess by the Kakatiyan rulers. It needs some level of physical dexterity to climb the 500 steps before you feast your eyes with the man-made marvel of the past. The architecture of Medak fort has influences from Hindu and Islamic art. It has three main doors namely, Gaja Dwaram, Simha Dwaram and the Prathama Dwaram. Located in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh it is the 2nd largest caves after Krem Liat Prah of Meghalaya. The pathway inside the cave is 3 km long, but only 1 km of it is accessible to tourists. There’s a point inside the cave that is 46 meters deep. This spot is called Pataalganga. A mysterious underground stream flows through this place. This cave was discovered by Jain and Buddhist monks in different periods of time. An enormous statue of Lord Buddha can be found at the site which commemorates the role of the monks.
