There used to be an extravagant palace inside the fort, whose ruins can still be seen inside the fort. When Tipu Sultan ruled the region this fort was rebuilt and the site was named as Jaffarabad. Legends say that a certain Brahmin was killed by the king for his political ambitions. However, this deed shook his conscience and he started getting nightmares. As a sign of repentance, he built a Shiva Temple and the Shiva lingam was brought from the holy town of Kashi. The Gothic and Islamic architecture of this temple can mislead you to believe the structure as a Muslim dargah.   The tomb of Gaddige built is Indo-Saracenic style is a popular attraction with a historical connotation. Some of the tombs include the likes of Lingarajendra, Virarajendra and Tipu sultan’s warrior Biddanda Bopu.
