Located 11 km away from Jaipur, Amer is a town that is only a 4 km square area. Built by Raja Man Singh I in 1592, Amer fort is built on a hill. The complex contains a Diwan-e-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), Diwan-e-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), Sukh Niwas (the residence of the royal family) and Sheesha Mahal (the glass palace). According to the legends the Meena king of Amer Fort, Raja Ralun Singh gave refuge to a stranded Rajput mother and her son Dhola Rae.Later the king sent him to Delhi to represent the Meenas. But, it was a betrayal that the king received in return. On the day of Diwali, he returned with more Rajput conspirers and massacred the weapon-less king and his family.

Nahargarh Fort was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in 1734. During the British Raj in 1857’s Sepoy Mutiny, the Europeans of the region along with the British Resident’s wife were moved to this fort by Sawai Ram Singh for their protection. There was a time when it was also said that the Fort is haunted. When the fort was being built, the workers found the previous day’s work completely destroyed the next day. It was then that Maharaja Jai Singh realized that the fort was haunted by a spirit of a Rathore prince. The myth was so strong that he built a shrine in which the spirit could reside.The fort is a complete package of awe and eerie. Though, not as haunted as Bhangarh, Nahargarh Fort could give you a run for your money. A walk through the corridors of this fort will take you back to history, where these incidents had occurred.
