Udaipur has been one of the best tourist destinations in Rajasthan and famous for Udaipur Points of Interest. Often called the Venice of the East because of the Pristine lakes, Udaipur is rich in its cultural heritage. Founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II as the capital of Mewar kingdom, Udaipur witnessed the opulence, grandeur of the Maharajas.
Once the seat of powerful Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar, Udaipur is flocked by domestic and international tourists for the beautiful forts, palaces and history buffs who love knowing about the history of a powerful kingdom.
In the past, the Rajputs of Mewar who called Udaipur as their home gave tough competition to the Mughal rulers who seat of power was Delhi. Akbar knew that it was very difficult to control Rajasthan with sword.
But this did not stop him from challenging the status quo of Mewar. The siege of Chittorgarh speaks the Rajput valour. It still stands as a symbol of resistance by Raja Udai Singh II.
Currently Maharana Arvind Singh Mewar is the custodian of the Mewar dynasty. His forefathers laid the foundation stone of Udaipur.

1. City Palace of Udaipur
It was the opulence of the city that, often attracted unwanted attention from foreign invaders. So, your trip to Udaipur will be incomplete without witnessing the Palaces that was once envied by the invaders.
Built on the banks of Lake Pichola, City Palace was the residence of the royal family in the past. Influences from Chinese, Medieval and European architecture can be seen in the palace.
The Lake Pichola is also a man-made lake constructed by the good Maharaja.
On Lake Pichola, you will be mesmerized to see the 4 islands namely Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas. The Jag Niwas is a palace built on the island.
Some of the places of interest inside the palace are Amar Vilas, Bhim Vilas, Krishna Vilas and Sheesh Mahal. To experience the royalty of a palace there is also a Hotel inside the Palace where you can live the Maharaja’s way.
2. Sajjangarh Fort

Built in 1874 AD by Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar dynasty, Sajjangarh fort is also known as the monsoon palace. Maharana Sajjan Singh the 72nd ruler of Mewar built this fort initially to watch the movement of monsoon clouds.
Built on top of a hill that stands 3100 feet above sea level, the fort leaves the visitors awestruck with the view of Udaipur from top. Currently the fort is maintained by the forest department and is open to tourists.
3. Fateh Sagar Lake
Constructed in 1687 by Maharana Jai Singh but was later washed away due to the floods. Later Maharana Fatah Singh built the Connaught Dam to mark the visit of Duke of Connaught on Lake Daweli.

Within the Fateh Sagar Lake there are three islands. One of the islands house Nehru Park, another park houses a large fountain and the third one houses the Udaipur Solar Observatory. The Multi Application Solar Telescope that started operations from 2015.
